Transport and disposal
Once correctly wrapped and labelled, asbestos waste should be transported according to legislation and relevant guidelines.

When transporting asbestos materials it is the responsibility of the individual to make sure that the asbestos is correctly wrapped and that no fibres escape into the air during transportation. This is the case for home owners and commercial asbestos removalists.
Only controlled waste handlers, registered by the Environment Protection Authority, can transport commercial amounts of asbestos (ie where a fee has been paid for removal). They must ensure that asbestos fibres are not released into the air. A list of approved controlled waste transporters and agents is available on the Environment Protection Authority's website http://www.environment.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=12509
Asbestos waste must only be disposed of at approved disposal sites. It should not be added to 'recycling' areas.
It is illegal to dispose of asbestos waste anywhere other than an approved disposal site. There are various fines in place and offenders may face prosecution.
